A magistrate set a $50,000 cash bond this morning for a MI man accused of handing out candy laced with THC at a weekend festival.

Matthew Lee Gross, 28, of Ypsilanti, Michigan was arrested and charged with trafficking in drugs.
A southeast MI man accused of passing out THC-laced sweets that sickened 24 people Saturday at an OH rap music festival is in jail on a felony drug-trafficking charge, according to media reports.
These synthetic cannabinoids, which the sweets are laced with, can be anywhere from two to a hundred times more potent than natural THC that is found in natural marijuana, and its general unpredictability is due to its unknown chemical composition.
The festival was headlined by Cleveland rapper Machine Gun Kelly.
“They didn’t lose consciousness”, he said. Authorities say all those sickened are expected to recover.
Lt. Joe Petrycki, commander of the METRICH regional drug task force, said early reports of concertgoers overdosing was too strong a description.
The edibles given to the concert goers looked like the popular candy, Nerds. OhioHealth spokesperson Nikki Workman said 24 people were treated, but that she felt the situation was under control. A lawyer for Gross couldn’t immediately be identified. Police also noted that Gross is licensed to possess and/or grow marijuana in the state of MI. Deputies also found a bag with drug paraphernalia and the same marked packet with candy in it.

Gross claimed he found the candy on the ground and was not his, authorities said.
