Thom York Will Compose Music for Broadway Production Old Times

The band’s frontman Thom Yorke will compose original music for the upcoming revival of Old Times, Roundabout Theatre Company announced Wednesday. Previews for the Broadway show begin on September 17, while the official opening night is scheduled for October 15 at New York’s American Airlines Theatre. The play itself is about memory and love-Thom’s music works backwards and forwards and plays with time and repetition in the same way Pinter does. Owen stars with Eve Best (“Nurse Jackie“, “The Homecoming”) and Kelly Reilly (“True Detective“) in the show, about a man and his wife (Best) whose reunion with his wife’s old friend (Reilly) turns ambiguous.

“The music Thom has written for Old Times gives an immediacy and a “now‐ness” to the show”, adds Yorke.

Hodge reached out and coaxed Yorke to the project as a huge fan.

Yorke reportedly composed most of the music, which will be heard at the beginning and end of performances as well as during transitions, using synthesizers, in keeping with the play’s 1970s setting. Hodge must now match the pieces of music to his staging.

Yorke follows different outstanding musicians to write down for Broadway performs and musicals, together with Cyndi Lauper (“Kinky Boots”), Sting (“The Final Ship”), Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanlij (“This Is Our Youth”), Branford Marsalis (“The Mountaintop”), Terence Blanchard (“A Streetcar Named Want”), and Alicia Keys (“Stick Fly”).

Thom Yorke performs at the 2013 Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin Texas. Yorke is going Broadway as he’s written original music for the upcoming revival of the play'Old Times' by Harold Pinter. (Pho
