Delta Air Lines experienced a worldwide computer outage affecting flights on all its routes, according to Rolenda Faasuamalie, spokeswoman for the A.B. Won Pat International Airport Authority.

The outage happened at its headquarters in Atlanta. Experts say travelers should expect delays into Wednesday.
The agency is looking for 1,400 people to participate in a 13-month training program at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City.
According to The New York Times, the outage occurred when a failed piece of electrical equipment at a facility in Atlanta triggered a shut down of airline’s computer system that manages booking, baggage and airplane communications.
Delta’s senior vice president of operations, Dave Holtz, said in a written statement that the airline is “still operating in recovery mode”.
Delta is Lovell Field’s most heavily used carrier, flying about half of all traffic.
“By the time I showed up at the gate the employees were already disgruntled, and it was really hard to get anybody to speak to me or get any information”, Ashley Roache, whose flight from Lexington, Kentucky, to New York’s LaGuardia Airport was delayed, told AP.
Delta’s CEO Ed Bastian filmed a brief minute-long apology video in which to address the issue and formally express his regret to affected customers.

In the past year, rivals Southwest Airlines Co and American Airlines Group Inc have also suffered flight disruptions due to data system malfunctions. Hopes of getting on a plane were raised and dashed overnight.
A day after the airline canceled 1,000 flights, Delta said it canceled another 250 flights from Tuesday’s schedule.
The airline was back online after a few hours on Monday, but the ripple effect could still be strongly felt a day later.
Delta also extended its travel waiver for customers traveling on August 9.
