Girl critical after plummeting 12 metres from flipped Ferris wheel basket

“The Ferris wheel was inspected then and there were no violations found”, Jennifer Farrar, public information officer with the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, said.

Tim Davis said the children were riding the ferris wheel at the Greene County Fair when their basket collided with another basket and tipped over, throwing them out, according to WBIR.

He said those injured are now alert and talking.

The company that runs the midway will have 24 hours to file a report with state regulators and undergo the third-party inspection.

Bobby Holt, acting president of Greene County Fair Board, said all rides operated by Family Attractions Amusement company were closed afterward and won’t reopen until a third-party inspection is complete and approved by state and fair officials.

“She has been under the continual care of the pediatric surgery service, the pediatric intensive care unit team as well as the neurosurgery team”, Burns said during a Tuesday news conference.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the Greene County Fair at 6:17 pm.

“There can be two or three companies with the same name”, he said.

All three girls are minors, the oldest a 16-year-old, WJHL reported. All rides have been shut down until further notice.

Kristen found out eyewitnesses and Ferris wheel employees were being interviewed tonight.

Two children were flown to Johnson City Medical Center because of the severity of their injuries. The third child was rushed to Johnson City by ambulance.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will not assist police with the investigation.

Three young girls have plummeted about 12 metres from a Ferris wheel after their basket flipped upside down, leaving one in a critical condition.

“It was like watching water pour from a glass”, Lynthacum said. Witnesses told WJHL that the girls bounced off the metal bridging of the ride before hitting the ground. Photos shared to social media show at least one of the ride’s baskets almost upside-down. Two of the girls are in stable condition while another, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, is in critical condition. He said the ride eventually stopped after people on the ground began screaming at the ride operators.

Police say one of three people who fell from a Ferris wheel during a county fair in Tennessee suffered a head injury and remains hospitalized in serious condition.

We are unsure at this time of the conditions of the three people who fell off the ride.
