The 22-year-old from Perth won silver as part of Team GBs 4x200m relay on Tuesday night.
Wallace and his teammates (Stephen Milne, Duncan Scott and James Guy) have secured Team GB’s first medal in the event since a bronze in 1984.
James Guy swam the final leg for the Brits and stormed through the field to pip Japan into second.
It was Phelps’ 21st gold medal at Olympic games as he continued his dominance in the pool, and second of the night as he also won the 200m butterfly in a rematch of the famous London 2012 race where he was narrowly beaten by South African Chad Le Clos.
“I congratulate Stephen Milne, Robbie Renwick, Dan Wallace, and Duncan Scott as well as their English colleague James Guy on producing such world-class performances in the heat and then the final”.
Entering the final leg, Britain were battling for third, but a sensational final leg from Guy saw the team finish second comfortably.
He said: “I think for me the first couple of days weren’t great”.
