Earlier in the morning, a seven-year-old boy was injured in an IED blast near a BSF camp at Moirang Purel village in Manipur’s Imphal East district. This is the second blast that shook the state on a single day.

Immediately after today’s explosion, Manipur police and BSF officials rushed to the spot and launched a massive search operation. No organisation or individual has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack so far. No one was arrested, police said. The boy has been taken to a hospital in Imphal, the officer said.

The university students were in the classrooms when the blast took place. Additional Superintendent of Police Th Vikramjit said the target of the recovered bomb was the security forces. The incident occurred at around 4.30 PM when jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF) were on a patrol on foot.
