Marcotte, a Leominster native, was a 2011 graduate of Boston University and was working for Google in New York City.
Early said Marcotte traveled from NY to Princeton frequently to visit her family. She was found a half mile from her mother’s house.
Town residents gathered at a church to remember her Tuesday.
Google, based in Mountain View, California, said it was “deeply shocked and saddened” by Marcotte’s killing.
Authorities are urging residents of a MA town to remain vigilant two days after the body of a New York City woman who went for a run near her mother’s home was found in the woods there. “We’re asking you to be very careful”, Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early, Jr. said in a press conference Monday.
The 27-year-old Marcotte was an account manager for Google in NY.
Early says an autopsy has been completed, but he won’t disclose how Marcotte died. “A genuine person”, Marcotte’s high school friend Justine Popik said. Princeton is a rural town of 3,500 residents about 40 miles west of Boston. Investigators said they do not know if this was a random attack. Marcotte worked as an account manager at Google in New York City.
Police said the town hasn’t had a homicide in three decades. “Somehow she immediately knew that’s what she wanted to do”, Quigley said.
“She was very, very nice”.
She had gone for a run near her mother’s house around 1 p.m. Sunday and never returned.
The 27-year-old Marcotte worked as an account manager in NY for Google.
Steven Quigley, a public relations professor at Boston University, called Marcotte an “incredibly sweet, gentle and bright student”. They urged anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area Sunday afternoon to call them. Police wrote on their Facebook page that “no tip is inconsequential or irrelevant”. A state police source said the woman’s body was found naked and burned.
“Vanessa Marcotte was a much loved member of the Google team, working in our NY office for the previous year and a half, and known for her ubiquitous smile, passion for volunteer work, and love of Boston sports”, a Google spokesperson said. “We do not know if this is a random act”.
