Rio Olympics 2016: Rowing racing called off due to bad weather again

However, Matt Smith, the executive director of world rowing’s governing body, Fisa, insisted they had “tricks up their sleeve” which he hoped would see them catch up with the race schedule.

Organisers and team managers were meeting to discuss a revised schedule for Thursday.

The men and women’s quadruple sculls finals were due take place at the spectacular Lagoa venue, but strong winds put paid to the action on day five.

Great Britain’s Peter Lambert, Angus Groom, Sam Townsend and Jack Beaumont were due to contest the men’s event, but will now have to hold tight and wait for the rescheduled event. Defending Olympic champions Helen Glover and Heather Stanning also due to compete in the semi-finals of the women’s pair.
