It was announced Tuesday morning that passenger service from Niagara District Airport to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, otherwise known as Toronto Island airport, will be launched next month by Greater Toronto Airways.

A survey showed between 6,000 and 7,000 people travel each day between Toronto and Niagara, that according to Greater Toronto Airways President and C-E-O Chris Nowrouzi.

Brilliant business idea or do you think this thing is not going to take flight?

One-way flights will run $85 and a return ticket starts at $159.

The route will be serviced by three aircraft. The airline’s website states it’s also planning to launch regular flights to Collingwood, about 160 km north of Toronto, as well as to Montreal.

“First we’re focusing on the local economy, trying to boost the connection between Toronto and Niagara Falls”.

Each flight will seat only eight people, but Nowrouzi said he and his business partners have been able to make the plan for the service “viable”.

During the 2016 season, there will be daily flights from Monday to Friday.

“We want to bring businesspeople back and forth between Niagara Falls and Toronto”, Nowrouzi said.

A 15-minute flight from Toronto to Niagara-on-the-Lake could be a desirable commuter option.
