Of course, Favre didn’t change the course of Packers history by himself. Still, it was Favre’s unbridled passion and personal competitiveness that pulled it all together.
What I will remember most, however, was his sincerity in sharing a story about his high school coach, who happened to be his father. “All at once, Green Bay became big on television and big across the country”. Favre is now a Hall of Famer having been inducted on Saturday night. He was beyond unsophisticated when he arrived in Green Bay, but Holmgren, a quarterbacks guru, helped him find the proper balance between sticking with the plan and taking chances. That was Favre as a professional quarterback, the ultimate freelancer.
