It was a moment that surely would rattle any just-turned-adult, especially one at an athletic competition where the crowd can be counted by hand. She picked up a rifle, used a tree to steady her shot, and took down the deer. She won the 10-meter air rifle competition Saturday morning, taking the top prize in an event in which she wasn’t even expected to medal. She grew up fantasizing of making the Olympics, but not as a shooter. Then came gold in Rio.
