Trasher grew up in Springfield, Virginia, and graduated from West Springfield High School in 2015.
The 19-year-old girl brought home the gold medal after winning the Women’s 10-meter air rifle at Rio Olympics 2016.
Thrasher, who is now an engineering student at West Virginia University, first showed off her impressive shooting skills when she won five medals at the 2016 USA Shooting National Championships.

Said the engineering major, who also goes by “Ginny”: “I knew it was realistic for me to make the final, but I wasn’t focused on that”. “For me, I’m excited to enjoy all the outcomes that come with a successful Olympic Games”. “For me to start Rio 2016 with a gold medal for the US makes me incredibly proud”. It was a moment that surely would rattle any just-turned-adult, especially one at an athletic competition where the crowd can be counted by hand. She picked up a rifle, used a tree to steady her shot, and took down the deer. She won the 10-meter air rifle competition Saturday morning, taking the top prize in an event in which she wasn’t even expected to medal. She grew up fantasizing of making the Olympics, but not as a shooter. Then came gold in Rio.

It was a whirlwind for Thrasher after her victory, for which she woke up at 5 a.m. Saturday.
