Sheriff’s office says 2 officers shot in western Arkansas
Arkansas State Police is providing assistance but referred calls to local authorities.

Officers identified the shooting suspect as Billy Jones, of Greenwood, according to KHBS.
Officers said Jones has barricaded himself inside a home on Mockingbird Hill Road, and officers are trying to negotiate with him.
Pevehouse tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that one sheriff’s deputy and one Hackett Police Department officer were shot.
CBS affiliate 5NEWS reports both officers were taken to a hospital in Fort Smith.
KFSM reports the deputy is in critical condition.
The shooting happened before 7:20 a.m. outside a residence in the 4700 block of Arkansas 253, which is between Greenwood and Midland. But 40/29 later amended that to quote a sheriff’s spokesman as saying officers had gone to Jones’ home in response to a call from Jones’ father to check on his son.
Two helicopters have been called to the search area as officers continue their search for the suspect. Johnson County Emergency Management all terrain vehicles were also brought in.
One of the officers is a Sebastian County deputy and the other is the Hackett chief of police, the sheriff’s office said. Their conditions are unknown.
Pevehouse tells Fort Smith television station KHBS (http://bit.ly/2biHmyK ) that officers are still searching for the shooter.

U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman, whose district includes part of Sebastian County, also didn’t have details about the incident but echoed the governor’s support for police statewide. 253 and Boone Road.
