Assange points to murdered DNC staffer as WikiLeaks source

WikiLeaks has offered a $20,000 reward for information about the murder of Democratic National Committee (DNC) staffer Seth Rich fueling conspiracy theories that he was behind an embarassing email leak earlier this year that threatened to destabilize the party.

And given the spate of recent deaths of people in position to make Hillary Clinton’s election more hard, plus the pattern the conspiracy theorists have been touting going all the way back to Arkansas, if Assange were to prove Rich was Wikileaks’ source then those deaths might stop becoming a parlor-game curiosity and could become an actual campaign issue.

The case of the leaked DNC emails took a freaky turn Tuesday afternoon when WikiLeaks announced a $20,000 reward for information relating to the death of a DNC staffer.

“Whistleblowers go to significant efforts to get us material and often very significant risks”, Assange told the Dutch television program Nieuwsuur.

Despite the speculation, those close to the murder of Seth Rich believe the story from police that he was killed in a robbery gone wrong.

Stone said in a speech on Monday he was in touch with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange about releasing documents that could damage the Clinton campaign.

It became positively surreal a few hours later when WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange suggested the staffer, not the Russians, was the source of the leaked emails. Rich was shot and killed in Washington D.C.

But on Tuesday, Assange’s unsubstantiated suggestion of retaliatory murder seemed created to turn the focus back on the DNC itself.

According to the Washington Post, WikiLeaks brought these conspiracy theories into the mainstream. I’m suggesting that our sources take risks.

The Australian has never formally been charged with any offense in Sweden, with investigators stating that they want to interview the WikiLeaks founder before making a decision on sexual assaults claims.

“It makes me kind of suspicious – not only potentially of WikiLeaks’ motive, but of the entire situation”, said Rob Placek.

Transparency organization Wikileaks announced today that it is offering $20,000 for information that would lead to the conviction of Seth Rich’s murderer.

According to some speculation within the Reddit community, Rich was killed while en route to meet with Federal Bureau of Investigation agents.

MPD spokesperson Alice Kim told Business Insider on Tuesday that there was no evidence connecting Rich’s death to his work at the DNC, but welcomed information.

The family welcomes all information that could lead to the identification of the person or people responsible, he said. Given that he’s now dead, what harm can come from revealing he was a source of information (if that is indeed the case)?
