Protests in Ferguson on Anniversary of Brown’s Death
A spokesman for the city of Ferguson says it appears the driver who struck a protester at an event marking the second anniversary of Michael Brown’s death did not do so intentionally.

A peaceful demonstration in Ferguson, Missouri, ended in violence Tuesday night when a vehicle sped through a group of protesters, striking and injuring one man, who was driven to the hospital.
Witnesses told an Associated Press reporter that the vehicle sped through a group of protesters during the demonstration marking two years since the unarmed black 18-year-old’s fatal shooting by a white police officer.
Law enforcement officials were on hand as the group periodically blocked traffic and chanted “no justice, no peace” and other slogans. The officer, who resigned, was cleared by a state grand jury and the U.S. Justice Department, but the shooting led to a consent decree governing the Ferguson Police Department.
Numerous scenes show images of young people with signs and cameras standing face-to-face with police carrying guns and shields.
Brown’s death sparked months of sometimes violent protests both in Ferguson and across America following subsequent police killings of unarmed black men in several other cities.
His father, also named Michael Brown, spoke at the memorial Tuesday.
Also on Tuesday, about 30 Black Lives Matter protesters interrupted a show at the Muny.
“My son built families up, opened the eyes of the world and let people know that this. this ain’t right”.
The shooting led to a Justice Department investigation which found patterns of racial bias in Ferguson’s police department and court system. “This color is not a disease”.
It also spurred the “Black Lives Matter” movement that has cast a spotlight on long-troubled relations between police and minority residents in many US cities.
At the memorial service, Shields comforted a young girl who was crying, according to an AP report.
