Slain Google worker ‘knew what she wanted to do’
Police, seen scouring the wooded area near a two-lane road on Monday afternoon, are asking the public’s help in finding out what happened after Marcotte departed, reports Fox 59.

“We are asking residents of Princeton and the surrounding areas to use an abundance of caution”, Early said.
They say “nothing has been ruled in or out” in the death of Vanessa Marcotte. They say they’re receiving “a lot of good information” from calls to an anonymous tip line. This undated driver license photo released by the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office shows Vanessa Marcotte, of NY, whose body was found Sunday night, August 7, 2016, in the woods about. Her body was found by a police K-9 unit in the woods off Brooks Station Road later that day.
“We are concerned about the safety of our town residents and visitors that enter our town”, Princeton Police Chief Michele Powers said.
Google said it was “deeply shocked and saddened” by Marcotte’s killing.
The killings over the past week of two women who had gone out for a run in NY and MA have reinforced the fears of many female athletes.
Authorities have opened a homicide investigation and do not know whether the killing was a random act, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said at a news conference Monday.
The district attorney said there is “nothing at this point” to connect Marcotte’s murder to the killing of 30-year-old Karina Vetrano in NY last week.
MA police say there’s no sign Vetrano and Marcotte’s murders are linked. The town of 3,500 is located about 40 miles west of Boston.
Police said they did not know if the attack was random or if Marcotte was targeted.
This story has been corrected to show the woman killed in NY was named Karina, not Katrina.
A Boston University professor says a Google account manager who was found slain in central MA during the weekend was “remarkably sweet” and knew at a young age what she wanted to do in her career.
Investigators are focusing on the hours just after Marcotte left for her jog Sunday afternoon along the tree-lined street and never returned. Her body was found in woods about a half-mile away Sunday night. Quigley says Marcotte “immediately knew that’s what she wanted to do”. Her body was found Sunday evening.
Like Marcotte, 30-year-old Katrina Vetrano was killed while running alone during daylight hours in a secluded area.

Marcotte grew up in nearby Leominster, attended the Bancroft School in Worcester and graduated from Boston University in 2011.
