A college student with ties to MA was shot to death while playing Pokemon Go at a popular tourist attraction in San Francisco, California.

According to Kirby, Riley and his friend saw someone watching them from the top of a hill, but they were playing the game, “and didn’t really care”. School is back in session in two weeks and friends said it will be a hard time for all of them knowing Calvin Riley won’t be here. “It was just senseless, [the gunman] just came up and shot and ran away for nothing”, said John Kirby. An investigator told the Chronicle that the area’s popularity could help them find surveillance footage and witnesses. Sgt. Robert Jansing of the U.S. Park Police said that the attack “makes no sense”.

In Davao City, Philippines, where Pokémon Go launched on Saturday, a player of the game assisted a man suffering from heatstroke. The description says that the money will be going to Riley’s funeral expenses. A little while later Riley’s friend heard a gunshot. Originally from Lowell, Mass., Riley pitched for the baseball team at San Joaquin Delta College, where he was studying kinesiology.

He was someone “everybody loved to be around”, his coach, Reed Peters, told the Stockton Record.

It was Riley’s attitude on the mound, though, that made him such a valuable teammate, friends said.

The Aquatic park in Fisherman’s Wharf is a popular destination in San Francisco, and the area had around four million visitors in 2014, but no one reported seeing the crime.

In the campaign, Gabriel Antonio Morales writes “Calvin Riley you were my best friend. You were more than a cousin/best friend to me, you were my brother”. It is also not known if the game had anything to do with Riley’s shooting.
