Michael Phelps Gives Finger-Wag Celebration After 200m Butterfly Win

After taking his haul of Olympic gold to an all-time record 21 medals, U.S. legend Michael Phelps returns to the pool on Wednesday, August 10 in search of further treasure. Le Clos previously beat Phelps in the same match at the London Games in 2012.

Considering that this was Phelps’ 20th Olympic gold medal, he more than deserved to do that and proved that he still dominates the sport. He defeated the field with a time of 1 minute, 53.36 seconds.

He has one more race Tuesday night, anchoring the USA team in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay. “That’s why I swim the 200 freestyle, both the IMs”.

This time, it was Phelps out front – barely – while Le Clos could only manage a fourth-place showing. Phelps still has three more events during the Olympics and could potentially end up with 24 gold medals.

Heat 5 is highlighted by newly minted world record holder Cate Campbell, defending Olympic champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo and 16 year-old sensation Penny Oleksiak. The race in Rio was just as exciting, with an even smaller margin of victory.

But four years later, the American swimmer finally got his shot at revenge and photographers were on hand to catch that exact moment Le Clos realised his gold glory was over – with about 10 metres to go.

It was a team effort to get Phelps his 21st gold medal in the 4-by-200 meter relay.

While Phelps only shed one tear on the podium, the emotions of the night were too much to Becky, who was in tears when the cameras returned to the BBC presenting line-up. Adrian barely qualified earlier in the 16th spot to advance to the semis. He won a gold medal for his work in the preliminary round of the 4-by-100 meter relay. Wednesday’s earlier preliminary session will determine the final foursome that United States of America will put forward for the medal race.

They headed backstage to congratulate Katie Ledecky.

Let’s hope that Phelps keeps doing what he’s best at so we can keep cheering him on! The swimmer definitely made our hearts melt with this one! He was tipped to be one of Phelps’s main rivals going into the tournament. My prediction is another gold for Phelps and silver for Lochte. The final for this event will be live on Thursday night.
