A month on, why Kashmir unrest continues after 56 deaths

“Two weeks ago, Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif said that he is waiting for the day when Kashmir will become Pakistan’s”.

He made the observation while participating in a debate in Rajya Sabha over the situation in Kashmir.

“Talks would not be held with Pakistan regarding Kashmir but on the issue of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir”, he added, saying slogans like “Pakistan zindabad” “won’t be tolerated”.

Replying to the debate, Singh said Pakistan was to blame for the recent problems in the valley.

Rajnath Singh added that the state government was providing maximum possible facilities during the turbulent times. The all party meeting will also be attended by the Prime Minister.

“We insist Jammu and Kashmir is an internal affair, I agree, but let us not forget that 50 percent of the original state of Jammu and Kashmir is not under our control”.

The Home Minister said it was “unthinkable” that Kashmir would be handed over to the Indian Army, as being spread on social media.

The Home Minister also informed the House that 100 ambulances were destroyed by stone-pelting yet 400 more ambulances have been deployed.

Ali, who was arrested on July 25 this year from Yahama village in Handwara in North Kashmir, was in one of the groups allegedly instructed to take advantage of the current situation and throw grenades at the security forces by mixing with the protesters.

The Opposition earlier came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not addressing the concerns of the Kashmiris in Parliament. He then spoke further on the issue and urged the government not to distinguish between “Kashmir the people” and “Kashmir the land”.
