Donald Trump Responds to Controversy Over Second Amendment Comments
At a rally on Tuesday, Trump suggested gun rights activists could prevent Clinton from placing liberals on the US Supreme Court. It also underscored the concern, voiced by many anxious Republicans, that he can not stay disciplined and avoid inflammatory remarks that imperil not only his White House prospects but the re-election chances of many Republican lawmakers.

Donald Trump, who had planned to follow up Monday’s major economic address with a series of events this week highlighting the jobs issue, now finds himself under attack over another off-the-cuff comment seen by many as a threat against Democratic rival Hillary Clinton (or possibly federal judges).
He joins a number of high-profile Republicans moving away from Trump amid a string of controversial statements.
Giuliani also told Stephanopolous that the widespread interpretation of Trump’s remarks is due to the Clinton spin machine.
This followed a Tuesday night editorial from the paper arguing one of the Republican nominee’s latest comments hinted at promoting violence against Hillary Clinton.
Some 19 percent think the NY real estate magnate should drop out, 70 percent think he should stay in and 10 percent say they “don’t know”, according to the August 5-8 poll of 396 registered Republicans.
The figures underscored deep divisions within the Republican Party over Trump’s candidacy. “I’ve known him for 28 years”, Giuliani said.
Making the unsubstantiated claim that Clinton wished to abolish the Second Amendment, he went on to talk about the presidential power to choose Supreme Court judges. Hillary Clinton is against our core Constitutional rights, and she has voiced support for gun-grabbing efforts that have and will continue to strip citizens of their rights….
In addition, 50 prominent national security experts signed an open letter saying they would not vote for Trump in the fall, saying he “lacks the character, values, and experience” to be president.
Other top Republicans, including Senator Susan Collins of ME this week, have disavowed Trump but said they can not back Clinton.
Trump has dismissed the defections and criticism as an unsurprising reaction of the so-called Washington elite to his drive to change the status quo.
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, a former GOP congressman who has had a hot-and-cold relationship with the Republican nominee, said that Trump has crossed a “bloody line”.
“I’m nearly at the point where I think I’m going to vote for Hillary”.
The New York Daily News used Wednesday’s front page to call on Donald Trump to abandon his presidential campaign, and urged the Republican party to remove him if he won’t leave on his own free will. Critics widely interpreted it as encouraging a physical attack on Clinton.

Donald Trump’s surrogates are in overdrive after he hinted that the “Second Amendment people” could put a stop to Hillary Clinton. Now, speaking to the NRA folks – who are great…and I’ll tell you, they endorsed me. We [are] tied because Scalia – this was not suppose to happen.
