“Wind damage occurred on a line from Quinnipiac Avenue near the Montowese section of North Haven east to Barberry Road”. Officials reported that an 8 foot by 10 foot shed was lifted 15 feet up into a tree.
The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-0 tornado hit near Mattituck, on the North Fork, based on a survey by a weather service meteorologist, Doppler weather radar data, emergency management, and trained spotters.
Earlier, there was also a brief tornado warning issued by the National Weather Service for eastern Suffolk. The tornado touched down around 1:30 p.m. But the winds reached speeds of 70 miles per hour across the 2.16-mile path of the tornado, and trees and power lines were knocked down in the Montowese section of North Haven, WFSB reported.
United Illuminating, which provides power to customers in the area, sent crews to restore power to the area.
“The North Haven Police Department will continue with high visibility patrols in the affected area”.
