Crawford’s HR helps Giants take series by beating Miami 1-0
Two days after Brandon Crawford battered the Miami Marlins with seven hits, he beat them with one swing.

The Miami Marlins are looking to get back on a roll and a series win over the NL West leading San Francisco Giants will go a long way.
Crawford tied the record with seven hits in Monday’s 14-inning victory in Miami, and became the first player to reach that total since Stennett in 1975.
But Jeff Samardzija, his former college teammate at Notre Dame, was a little better on Wednesday afternoon.
Samardzija had lost his past three starts.
Also, this is probably the first time Bonds has been ejected from a game and Giants fans are happy about it.
Frustration by Miami peaked in the sixth inning, when Bonds was ejected for arguing after pinch hitter Chris Johnson was called out on strikes with two on to end the threat. Bonds then came onto the field to briefly argue further before being pulled away by manager Don Mattingly. The ejection marked the first for Bonds in his coaching career. Rennie Stennett visited the ballpark Wednesday so he could congratulate San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford, who had seven hits in Monday’s August 8, 14-inning victory at Miami.
Play of the Game: J.T. Realmuto striking out after Ichiro’s double in the 9th actually had the biggest WPA affect on the game (-.138 WPA), edging out the Crawford solo home run (+.131 WPA).
Matt Moore issued five walks but managed to limit the Marlins to two runs over six innings in a loss on Tuesday.
Marlins CF Marcell Ozuna, however, is 0-for-18 in his last five contests.
Giants right-hander Jeff Samardzija and the San Francisco bullpen held Miami to five hits Wednesday. “I was telling myself not to walk him”.
Marlins: RHP David Phelps (5-5, 2.45) will start his second consecutive game after moving into the rotation from the set-up role. He got three hits in that game, and two the next.
Both teams have Thursday off.
RHP Andrew Cashner (4-8, 4.96) is scheduled to start for the Marlins when they begin a three-game series Friday against the Chicago White Sox.
