Mufti’s political rival, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said Mehbooba’s trip to Delhi shows that she has finally given up the “business as usual act” and called the meeting an “intervention”.

Over 8,000 people, including security personnel, have been injured while 410 eye surgeries and 1,650 other surgeries are reported to have been done because of the use of pellet guns on protesters, he said.

The Kashmir Valley has been under curfew for 31 consecutive days as the Indian government comes under intense pressure to ease the crisis.

Over 55 people have been killed and over 5,000 people injured in clashes between the security forces and protestors.

The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday took up for discussion the continued Kashmir unrest with Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence in the house during the sensitive debate.

Air India on Tuesday said it will not impose any cancellation or re-scheduling charges on tickets booked for flights to and from Srinagar till August 16, amid the volatile situation in Kashmir.

The ministers discussed the law and order situation in Kashmir, socio-economic issues and the use of pellet guns and how it can be reduced.

Prime Minister Modi said Kashmir wants peace and the government is committed for development of the region.

He went on: “The situation there is very tense and it is regrettable that the government is watching from the sidelines.not a word from the Prime Minister.people in Kashmir are wondering why the Prime Minister is silent on the situation in Kashmir”.

Earlier on Monday, opposition parties also condemned the “silence” of the central government on the situation in Kashmir.
