USA basketball survives tough challenge by Australians

The American athletes begin Day 5 with 26 total medals, while China retains its second-place standing with 17. The United States still leads the way with the most medals. However, if an athletes from Singapore does win a gold, the win will be even more sweeter.

Ledecky anchored the US women’s 4×200 freestyle relay, leading the Americans cruise to victory ahead of Australia and Canada, who won silver and bronze respectively. The U.S. women’s gymnastics team dominates to win a second straight Gold.

But it wasn’t all good news and gold for Team USA.

Wednesday will be another big day for swimming events in Rio. Both Phelps and Mr. Lochte are slated to compete in the 200-meter individual medley semifinal, which begins at 10:29 p.m., as they set their sights on the finals.

The Australians gave the United States men’s basketball team all they could handle, but Team USA came away with a 98-88 victory at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday.

Missy Franklin, who had qualified second in the 200 free at USA trials six weeks ago, did not get to swim the final, adding to a disappointing week for the darling of the London Games.

Team USA will return to action on Friday against Serbia (1-2), who lost a heart-breaker, 76-75, to France (2-1) earlier today when Bogdan Bogdanovic misfired on a three-point attempt at the buzzer after San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker had connected on a go-ahead jump shot with under one minute to play.

Just one day after the US women’s gymnastic’s team took home gold in the team finals, the men’s individual all-around finals will be held.
