Gregg Campaign Trying To Link Pence And Holcomb

More recently, Holcomb was in a hard primary battle for a U.S. Senate seat, trailing in polls and money-raising, when Pence named him to replace outgoing lieutenant governor Sue Ellspermann this spring.

“After the proceedings, I am proud to announce that Lt. Governor Eric Holcomb will be running as the Republican Candidate for Governor of Indiana”.

State committee member Kyle Hupfer of Madison County, who was supporting Holcomb, said the lieutenant governor benefits from long ties with GOP leaders.

As Hoosier political observers know, Pence alienated many Hoosiers with his anti-civil-rights Religious Freedom Restoration Act, and infuriated many others with his support for an overly restrictive anti-abortion bill that has failed one court challenge already and awaits another.

Brooks probably was the candidate who would have created the most trouble for Gregg’s campaign.

U.S. Rep. Todd Young, who is running for the seat Coats is vacating in the U.S. Senate, said he can attest to Holcomb’s “dedication to serving our state”.

“It has been since the primaries, and right now, it’s just about unifying the party to make sure the Republicans get the vote in November”, Kurpiel said. “I’m ready to answer this next call and lead us to victory”.

Cardwell said the party was united in Holcomb’s selection. Both members will have some work to do to get their names back on the ballot in their 4th and 5th districts, respectively. The people of IN do not want another four years of a Mike Pence puppet show, tugging on the strings of hardworking Hoosiers.

“This race was never about running against Mike Pence”.

“I am speaking for myself, that I have had discussions with the governor and I look forward to his support”, Holcomb said. “Voters have a clear choice in November”. As Speaker, John Gregg turned a budget surplus into a budget deficit and increased taxes on families.

They point to his deep knowledge of IN, as a political operative and from travels along thousands of miles of two-lane highway, even before he became lieutenant governor IN March.

Gregg was first elected as a state representative from a rural southwestern IN district IN 1986 after working as a coal company lobbyist and starting a private law practice IN Vincennes.

The committee’s choice will face Democratic nominee John Gregg in the general election.

Apparently they couldn’t see that’s what Gregg and the Democrats had to want, too. “He has never been elected to anything and this is the guy the Republicans trot out to run for Governor”. Pence had endorsed Holcomb for the nomination. It is a lot easier to capture an open seat than it is to unseat an incumbent. I’d also like to thank the other candidates who offered themselves for public service.
