‘No Man’s Sky’ players can’t meet up with each other just yet

Still, given the plan for Hello Games to continue to work on No Man’s Sky, it’s worth keeping an eye on in coming months.

“For our game, it’s procedurally generated”.

Unlike most first-person games where players are given a gun and asked to destroy the alien in front of them, No Man’s Sky gives the option to just look on in wonder and amazement. The company line has been that the size of the universe is so staggeringly huge that the odds of two players finding each other are nearly nil. When a game is touted by its developer as being hundreds of hours long, we know that we’ll see a YouTube video showing the ending by the following day.

He added later that “it is a testament to how awesome our network coders are that Discoveries are still working at all”, suggesting further that online features are severely hampered. The reason seems to be overwhelming interest in the unique title, which offers over 18 billion planets to explore, as the number of active players far outpaces what Hello Games ever anticipated.

“We added online features and some Easter Eggs to create cool moments”, he said.

The new PlayStation 4 model Sony is likely announcing in September, now referred to as “PS4 Neo”, could affect the future of just-release No Man’s Sky, Hello Games head Sean Murray told the Daily Star.

And fans found out more of what he meant when the two intrepid users tried their best to meet. More than we could have predicted.

If you’re among the many players to pick up a pre-ordered copy of No Man’s Sky this week, you might want to leave your bonus ship docked at the starport. Within 24 hours of going live, players had discovered some 10 million species in the game, more than exist on earth, Murray said. “No Man’s Sky” was made by a small team and it already has several lifetimes worth of planets to explore, so the lack of direct multiplayer right now isn’t a big deal.
