A computer outage Monday morning grounded planes around the world, stranding thousands of summertime travelers left in limbo as Delta struggled to sort out the mess, its reputation as an on-time airline severely tarnished.
That includes more flights at Dayton International Airport.
As of 2:30 p.m. EDT (1830 GMT), Delta said it had canceled 311 flights on the day, adding to the more than 1,600 cancellations since Monday.
More than 1,000 flights were canceled Monday after Delta’s Atlanta headquarters lost power at 2:30 a.m., causing extensive problems with its computers that rippled through its systems for three days in a row.
Ed Bastian, who took over as CEO in May, spoke with The Associated Press Wednesday about the system meltdown, the airline’s spending on new technology and plans to keep passengers loyal to Delta.
“Critical systems and network equipment didn’t switch over to backups”.
“For example we’re seeing slowness in a system that airport customer service agents use to process check-ins, conduct boarding and dispatch aircraft”, West said. Another 59 flights were delayed, including four by midday Wednesday.
You posted an apology video Tuesday saying this isn’t Delta and the quality of service that passengers expect.
“We just don’t have a number for a specific region”, he said.
Countless stranded passengers have had to cope with canceled or delayed trips. The updated policy now applies to all Delta flights with impacted travel dates August 8 – 10.
On Tuesday, Delta canceled more than 600 flights, offered stranded fliers $200 vouchers and extended the date by which passengers could change their tickets without paying a fee.
“We are still operating in recovery mode”, Delta, the No.2 USA airline by passenger traffic, said on Tuesday.
“Our crews have been on site this morning and we continue to work closely with the team at Delta as they work to fix the affected equipment”, Georgia Power said in the statement. The vouchers are available for travel on all Delta and Delta Connection-operated flights.

The airline says fliers booked on those days’ flights can make one change to their itineraries without paying the standard change fee, which ranges from $200 domestically to as much as $500 on some worldwide itineraries.
