Phelps will be seeking his fourth straight 200 IM title at the Olympics.
In the semifinals for the individual medley 200 meter for the men, Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte would each put on a show and guarantee themselves a spot in the finals for tomorrow’s big race. She scored her second gold medal of the 2016 Olympics with that win.
On Tuesday, Phelps’ face bared a familiar scowl as he walked out on to the deck.
In the 200 butterfly, he touched the wall in one minute, 53.36 seconds to beat Japan’s Masato Sakai by 0.04 seconds, with Hungary’s Tamas Kenderesi taking the bronze.
Dmitriy Balandin of Kazakhstan notched a come-from-behind victory in the 200-meter breast stroke.
The race lived up to its billing but packed a huge surprise as Kyle Chalmers of Australia scored a major upset and swam away with the gold medal in 47.58.
Ledecky, who shattered the 400m freestyle world record in winning gold on Sunday, was second at the 100m mark but had moved into first at the final turn, holding off Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom with Australia’s Emma McKeon claiming bronze.
Ledecky, 19, has taken her medal haul to three, having won 4x100m freestyle relay silver earlier this week. At this pace, she could challenge Phelps’ medal haul someday.
The U.S. women’s team dominated their rivals to win gold, earning the highest score in all four gymnastics events (184.897). Like Maya DiRado, who won a bronze medal in the 200 meter individual medley Tuesday night. He participated in the Olympics four times, according to The University of Pennsylvania.
The normally stern Karolyi broke down in tears when she was told of the nickname the team adopted. And over in Fifth Avenue we have a grandmother there that we want to say hello to, ‘ Ledecky’s mother added, as she waved her little girl’s hands. On the men’s side, Japan won the team all-round, shocking China, the favorites, who took bronze; The Russian men won silver. But Ledecky could do something even more extraordinary: break the eight-minute mark, a feat that, up until this point, has been seen only in the men’s competition. It had turned a murky green since Monday night’s events.
And in those 10 years Ledecky has made quite a name for herself.

She struggled mightily at the USA trials, qualifying for the team in only two individual events and one relay – a far cry from her seven-event program at the London Games. Williams looked out of sorts and irritated, accumulating 37 unforced errors. Gymnast Biles hopes to add an individual all-around gold to her collection of three world championship titles and a team Rio gold.
