Burger King says they’re responding to fans who demanded a chicken fry renaissance on social media.
“We wanted to create something as spicy as sh**, that it was so spicy that it may even offend you”, said Eric Hirschhorn, Burger King’s chief marketing officer for North America at an exclusive taste-test of the new product attended by TheStreet in New York City on August. 6.
Americans are getting more into spicy food.
The fiery chicken fries will cost $2.89 for nine pieces. Last month, it said chicken fries helped push sales by 7.9 percent at established stores in the U.S. and Canada.
Ironically, Chicken Fries weren’t even available at the time of the tweet, so it’s quite possible that he meant “chicken and fries”. Both the breading and the white chicken meat are flavored with the spices. Think more like a squirt of Sriracha sauce or dollop of Tabasco rather than habanero or ghost pepper levels of spice.
During testing, employees tried thousands of Chicken Fries before settling on the current version to find a balance between something that was spicy and something that wasn’t so spicy that customers would never want to eat it again.
