Serena and Venus Williams lose Olympic doubles match for first time

In hindsight, it shouldn’t have been so shocking to see Venus and Serena lose 6-3, 6-4 to Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova on Sunday.

The duo of Serena and Venus Williams were shown the exit door in tennis doubles event at the Rio 2016 Olympics early on Mondaymorning.

Safarova and Strycova, on the other hand, were a last-minute pairing.

All is not lost for the Williams Sisters as sister Serena is still in contention for back-to-back Olympic titles having eased past Australia’s Daria Gavrilova in her singles opener earlier in the day.

Nadal, the 2008 gold medalist who only confirmed his Rio participation last week, was supported throughout the one-sided match by a rowdy Brazilian crowd.
