Vietnam fortifies its islands with rocket launchers in South China Sea
Aircraft hangars that, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, have room for any fighter jet in the Chinese air force are seen on Subi Reef in the Spratly islands, in the disputed South China Sea in this July 24 satellite image released by the Asian Maritime Transparency Initiative at CSIS to Reuters on Tuesday.

The Japan Coast Guard said at least two of the 13 Chinese vessels have entered Japanese territorial waters around the islands despite repeated warnings for them to leave.
At the same time, China is narrowing the still-considerable gap with the U.S. Navy, adding to its fleet of high-tech destroyers similar to the Benfold and building homemade aircraft carriers to join the single, heavily refurbished Ukrainian one it has now.
The hangars all show signs of structural strengthening, CSIS said.
Located in the East China Sea, about 150 km northeast of Taiwan, the uninhabited Senkaku islands have a total surface area of about 7 sq.km and are reportedly rich in marine and energy resources.
Ramos revealed that the people he want to first meet with during his trip is is Wu Shicun, president of the National Institute for South China Sea Studies, a major think tank based China’s southern island of Hainan Province.
Here’s a look at the rapid construction on Mischief Reef, Fiery Cross Reef, and Subi Reef. Poling added, “They’re reinforced to take a strike”.
“The situation surrounding the Japan-China relationship is markedly deteriorating”, he told Cheng, according to the ministry’s statement on its website.
Separately, relations between China and another USA ally, South Korea, have been strained in recent days by a decision by South Korea and the United States to deploy an advanced anti-missile defence system, to guard against North Korean attacks, that China fears could be used against its military.
State media also reported that China sent bombers and fighter jets on combat patrols near the South China Sea islands on Saturday. Japan called on China to adhere to it, saying it was binding, but Beijing warned Japan not to interfere.
The ministry on Friday complained to Beijing through diplomatic channels, the newspaper reported.
But negotiations stalled and Tokyo suspects China has some drilling rigs in operation near its de facto maritime border with Japan.
TOKYO (AP) Japan’s foreign minister summoned China’s ambassador Tuesday and lodged a protest over the increased number of Chinese vessels in waters near disputed islands in the East China Sea.

While the government has yet to formally comment on Ramos’ mission, China’s official Xinhua News Agency said in an editorial Tuesday that it “brings a whiff of hope that the two countries will return to bilateral negotiations over the issue”.
