Argentina new coach Edgardo Bauza has traveled to Spain to see if he could persuade Lionel Messi to come out of global retirement.

Per ESPN Deportes (via ESPN FC’s Dermot Corrigan), concerns about the AFA also led to reports that Barca’s Javier Mascherano and Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero are considering their worldwide futures.
Messi, a record five-times world player of the year, said in June that “the national team is over for me” following Argentina’s loss in the Copa América final.
Aside from an Olympic gold in 2008, Messi has been unable to claim a major title at global level having been a member of the side that finished as the World Cup runners-up in 2014, as well as tasting defeat in the Copa America finals in 2007, 2015 and 2016. You might be asking yourself at this point if this new coach has to special order his shoes and why he has chose to dilly dally in conversations with Argentine football players other than Messi while in Spain but it turns out Argentina has more than one important player. On being appointed last week, Bauza said one of his first missions was to speak directly to Messi about his problems with the national team, and he spoke to reporters at Barcelona’s El Prat airport on arrival in Europe. “I want him to tell me about the frustration which lead him to say what he did”.
