Northland Gold Star Parents Weigh-in on Trump Controversy

Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe lit into Donald Trump on Monday for his continued attacks on Khizr and Ghazala Khan of Charlottesville, parents of an Army captain killed in Iraq and outspoken critics of the Republican presidential candidate.

“You have a son in the military, how do you tolerate his disrespect?”

Many Republican leaders, including John McCain, have spoken out about Trump’s remarks, saying the Republican presidential nominee defamed Khan and doesn’t represent the larger GOP Party. “If your Senator does a statement please send a copy to me so I can catalog them”, Rob Wasinger wrote in an email to staffers for Republicans on Capitol Hill. “And it looked like she had nothing to say”.

When asked on CBS if his father is capable of apologizing, Eric Trump called his dad “a fighter” who was “attacked viciously”.

The Indiana governor went on to say “Let me just say first I want to honor your son’s service to the country and your family’s service to the country, I truly do”.

She said the question remains: “How can you stand by someone so disrespectful?”

“I imagine the reason Donald Trump is doing that is to try to raise anxiety in the minds of voters and to hopefully, from his point of view, turn that anxiety into support for him”, Wagner said. In fact, Khan said, he keeps a stack of pocket-sized Constitutions at his home to give to guests and to strike up conversation.
