Back in 2014, HP first announced its first set of Stream Windows laptops to take on Chromebooks.
The company pegs battery life at up to 10.9 hours, depending on model. The smaller model measures just 18 millimeters (0.71 inches) at its thinnest point and weighs 2.75 pounds, while the 14-inch variant measures 17.9 millimeters (0.70 inches) at its thinnest point and tips the scale at 3.18 pounds. The 2016 HP Stream line of notebooks now come in 11.6- and 14-inch versions, both sleek and lightweight.
The Stream 14 replaces the Stream 13 and bumps up some under-the-hood specifications as well as a refreshing the design. Also tweeked is the design, which gets linear grooves on the outside shell of the screen, where previous versions were simply smooth. Other Stream laptops also receive an upgrade.
“We’ve enjoyed positive feedback about the HP Stream family, which for many consumers is exactly what they need to access content and services in the cloud from wherever they are”, said Kevin Frost, vice president and general manager, Consumer Personal Systems at HP. “They store their photos on the web, not on their hard drives, and they’re more concerned about the strength of the web connection rather than the power of the processor”.
So what can we expect in terms of specs?
Other features include Intel HD Graphics 400, Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity, 2×2 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and dual front-facing speakers with DTS Studio Sound.

While it’s not clear when the new Stream laptops will become available, I believe it will be soon. The HP Stream 11 is hitting stores on August 24, while the HP Stream 14 is arriving on September 7. This version will be offered in a Jack Black color and an optional RAM/storage (4GB/64GB) choice. The updated portfolio now includes an updated 11.6-inch diagonal and a new 14-inch diagonal Stream notebooks, as well as an 11.6-inch diagonal HP Stream x360, which flexes into four positions like Lenovo Yoga devices. This design comes with four color choices, Aqua Blue, Snowy White, Violet Purple and Jack Black, but I don’t believe it’s new.
