USA -backed forces fighting to drive Islamic State out of northern Syria have gathered a massive trove of documents and data belonging to the militant group, potentially shedding more light on its operations, a us military official said on Wednesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported heavy civilian casualties during several days of airstrikes last week around the village of Tokhar near the city of Manbij on several days last week.
The Observatory said 13 others were killed in the airstrike.
Garver also revealed that a second initial investigation is now underway to determine the credibility of allegations surrounding civilian deaths during an alleged strike on July 23 to the east of Manbij.
Colonel Chris Garver said there was credible evidence to support the complaint.
Bragg, NC, on the eve of its deployment to Iraq, Carter said the United States and its coalition partners had recently “developed and agreed on our next set of plays” to defeat ISIL. Cook did not say when any of the open investigations would be completed.
A massive bomb blast claimed by the militant Islamic State group killed at least 44 people and wounded dozens in the Kurdish-majority Syrian city of Qamishli.
Anas al-Abdah, president of the Syrian National Coalition, warned in a letter to the foreign ministers of the anti-Isil coalition that the killings of civilians by US-led aircraft would “prove to be a recruitment tool for terrorist organisations”.
Al-Ghandour is 15 miles north west of Manbij, a key hub in IS’s Syria network and a supply route to its de facto capital of Raqqa.
“We deeply regret the unintentional loss of life and injuries resulting from our airstrikes and express our sympathies to those affected”, Centcom said.
On 31 May, the SDF supported by USA coalition airstrikes, mounted an offensive to recapture Manbij from the terror group.
Only after the strike did the USA -led coalition receive reports from sources indicating there may have been civilians in the area.
A single attack on a village last week killed at least 74 named civilians, mostly women and children, and potentially more than 50 others, according to multiple observers. Local and outside activists described the horrific aftermath of a coalition bombing run against the village of Tokkhar, outside Manbij, earlier this week.
