Convicted road rage killer dies in another road rage incident

Investigators said the driver in the auto, 42-year-old Robert Padgett, warned Gary Lynn Durham, who was the driver of the pickup truck, before he pulled out a gun and shot him.

Luscynski says Padgett is cooperating with law enforcement and will not be arrested.

“It’s been a very taxing day”, Padgett said.

Hillsborough deputies are investigating a deadly shooting that may have stemmed from a road rage incident between two drivers at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard just east of Forbes Road.

Sheriff’s officials tell WFLA that Gary Lynn Durham was recently released from prison after spending 11 years behind bars for killing a man during a road rage incident. Neither man was immediately identified by the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Durham’s shooter was questioned and released.

“The intersection will remain closed for the next several hours during the ongoing investigation”, the agency wrote in an email to media.

Cathi White, a manager at a convenience store and gas station nearby, said she heard a number of gunshots this morning coming from the east along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drivers should avoid the area.
