China claimed the gold medal for with an enormous 496.98 points, with the United States of America taking second place on 457.11 points.
It’s a remarkable feat considering the pair only started training together last October and it was Goodfellow’s first Olympics. But it actually does make it easier for us to dive because normally, when you’re spinning, it’s hard to see which way is up when the sky and water are both blue.
“I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the support”, he said.
Sadly, only one year before Tom landed his very first bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, Robert died from brain cancer at just 40-years-old.
After executing their final dive, Daley and Goodfellow were made to wait anxiously before their score was confirmed but Daley has insisted that he and his teammate were always confident of winning a medal in Brazil.
Sharon Goodfellow, the mother of the 19-year-old Olympian following the games with enthusiasm, expressed her disappointment with some of the coverage on Twitter. I’ve not told him the truth the last few days – we’ve been cutting corn. “I pounced on Dan and I don’t think he was quite ready for it and before we knew it we are in for a top-bombing seventh dive”.
And Dustin, 42, added: “We talk about him all the time”.
Stig Abel joked: “It’s a brilliant achievement by Tom Daley to win a solo medal in a synchronised event”.
“I wanted him to be focused out there, not worrying about what’s going on”.
Ling said that his performance, which was watched by Princess Anne, had been a “long time coming”.
Despite their medal being very much a team effort, a number of national newspapers concentrated on Tom Daley, running pictures of Team GB’s poster boy on his own. It’s given me a taste and now I want to go and get some more.
Canoe slalom athlete Joe Clarke qualified in second for Wednesday’s semi-final, recovering brilliantly after a 50-second penalty in his first run.
“It’s given me a taste of it and I want to go and get some more”.
But only Katie Ledecky of the USA was able to better her in Rio as Carlin posted a second personal best of the day.
The Brits scored 81.60 for their reverse 3 ½ somersaults tucked and knew they needed to score well in their final two dives.
Team GB’s women’s rugby sevens team continued their imperious form, cruising past Fiji 26-7 in the quarter-finals to set up a tough semi-final against one of the favourites New Zealand, who squeezed past the U.S. in their quarter-final.
