Garcia wishes Olympic format included team play

The other player is Byeong Hun An of South Korea, who comes from an Olympic heritage.

Bonita Springs resident Peter Jacobsen will be on the Golf Channel/NBC Sports broadcast team calling the golf coverage beginning Thursday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Also, people around the globe may tune into golf even if they have no prior attachment to the game or even if they’ve never played it simply because people do watch the Olympics.

Since the return of golf to the Olympic Games was announced in 2009, Rose has been looking forward to the possibility of representing his country in Rio on the historic occassion. Lydia Ko would validate her standing as perhaps the most accomplished teen-aged player, male or female, of the last century.

This eye-opening new experience wasn’t enough to lure world number one Jason Day, US Open champion Dustin Johnson, 2015 Masters and US Open victor Jordan Spieth and four-time major victor Rory McIlroy to Rio.

The U.S. contingent didn’t specifically second-guess the decision made by some of the game’s top players to not participate this week – that would be bad form and unfair. Jacobsen isn’t spending time thinking about the virus.

“I haven’t had a problem and I definitely feel safe here”.

“We all respect the decisions that were made; whether it was anything around schedule or health concerns or anxious about security, and that’s possibly one thing I’ve relayed back since we’ve been down here”.

“The fact that was the case, then you get to be really excited about the opportunity to represent Team GB”. A lot of times it’s more interesting to talk about what’s negative. Let’s talk about what’s negative instead of what’s right. Things weren’t going well for Palmer and when I asked for his autograph he was gruff and basically rude. He said while he understood other golfers had their reasons for dropping out, he felt prepared to handle any mosquito-related risks. “In all seriousness”, Cleverly said a year ago, “the project is probably going to kill me by the time I’m through with it”.

So which is it: Rio or Ryder Cup?

Fowler chose to live in the Olympic Village while in Rio and he has been seen wearing a red shirt, blue hat and American-flag Pumas.

The United States will have four players entered into the Olympic competition: Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Patrick Reed and Matt Kuchar.

“I had secretly fingers crossed, hoping players would pull out”, Kuchar said Tuesday. The ball doesn’t know what we did at the Open, that’s for sure.

Golf is finally coming back to the Summer Olympics after 112 years. There’s lot of birdies out there, but lots of places to get into trouble, too.

Stenson lifted his first major title with a record-breaking performance at Royal Troon and is favourite for gold, but said: “It’s a new week”. Jacobsen, who said he had predicted Johnson would break through in a major this year, was thrilled to have been at the British Open, where Stenson and Phil Mickelson put on an epic battle during the final round.

Two-time Masters victor Bubba Watson and Patrick Reed will also represent the United States in Rio, with Fowler pointing out that means they are the only nation capable of a clean sweep of the medals. “It was a battle we haven’t seen probably since (Tom) Watson and (Jack) Nicklaus at Turnberry”.

Hanse, however, is just as interested in what becomes of his course.

Padraig Harrington in action during yesterday’s practice round ahead of the men’s Olympic strokeplay competition, which starts today.

That’s not all. When golfers get to the 12th hole, they can find burrowing owls living in bunkers.

“I played Hazeltine on (Aug. 1)”, Jacobsen said.

An aerial shot of the golf course. My assessment would be that (U.S.) captain Davis Love take advantage of the length of Hazeltine National.

Three months earlier he was gushing about how he couldn’t wait to play in the Olympics. You think it’s going to last forever.
