A-Rod booed at Fenway Park after finally getting into a game

When the New York Yankees stop paying designated hitter Alex Rodriguez when his contract is up, the team will have paid him more than $317 million, according to an analysis of Rodriguez’s contract done by the Associated Press.

Despite their enthusiasm, it didn’t happen.

He is expected to get one more opportunity to go after homer 697 Thursday night – though even that seemed to be in jeopardy Wednesday afternoon. That’s another story entirely. The Red Sox pen shouldered Wednesday’s defeat after starter Drew Pomeranz allowed one run through 5.1 innings before four relievers were charged with eight runs to cough up a 4-1 lead.Boston totaled nine hits and six walks with Andrew Benintendi driving in a run and scoring while Sandy Leon scored twice.

Girardi explained further that Boston was in the AL East race and Tampa Bay was out of it, justifying his decision to start Rodriguez on Friday.

Two more games and he won’t have to worry about it.

Right fielder Mookie Betts, having left a game with too much fluid in his right knee weeks ago, was also pulled an inning earlier with soreness in his right calf.

“Our bullpen is a bunch of one-inning guys”, Girardi said.

“My job is to put out what I feel is the best lineup, and that’s what I’m trying to do”, Girardi said. After the game, he told reporters, “I’m getting to see the light at the end of the tunnel”. Girardi said Wednesday. “I made a mistake”.

Girardi said he thinks their relationship may have been altered because of how he has taken at-bats from Rodriguez.

“I said … I would try to get him in every game”.

“That’s my job. That’s in my job description”.

Even so, Red Sox manager John Farrell recognized that Rodriguez was one of the most unsafe hitters in the game throughout his career. “We probably won’t know anything until tomorrow”. So yeah, it’s hard, and that’s why I get partially angry here because I believe people are playing both sides of the fence because it creates news. Ian Browne of MLB.com reported that “X-rays were negative and Ortiz is day to day”. “I wasn’t going to do anything physical, but I wanted to make sure they understood what I felt was happening was incorrect and wrong”.

Fans say he will equally be remembered for a season-long suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs and frequent appearances in the tabloids for episodes involving late-night poker games, his divorce and reputed interludes with Madonna, movie stars and a stripper.
