Trojan Katinka Hosszu wins second gold, swims for third Tuesday
“You did it – not your husband” was among the social media messages posted following NBC’s coverage of the 400-meter individual medley.

Fencing has featured in the Olympic Games ever since the first of the modern era in 1896, and this year 246 athletes from 47 countries take part across 10 events.
With a collegiate career just as decorated as her Olympic one, Hosszu stands as one of the most celebrated women of Troy to have entered the pool for USC. Producers need to think seriously about loosening NBC’s prime-time schedule to give at least a taste of more things happening at the Olympics.
It’s not the first time Tusup has lost his cool after a less-than-brilliant swim by Hosszu.
The awesome female swimmer’s time of 58.45 seconds was three tenths of a second ahead of Team USA’s Kathleen Baker, making her first Olympic appearance and winning the silver medal.
Dan Hicks did not back down Sunday from commentary on NBC’s broadcast the night before that some online critics suggested was sexist. “In fact, it’s been a little disturbing to some of the other swimmers who have observed it”. “And Hosszú admits that”, he said. “So we can laugh a lot”.
Hosszu sued “Swimming World” in an Arizona court past year after the magazine published an opinion piece in which former Canadian swimmer Casey Barrett asked: “Are Katinka Hosszu’s performances being aided?” The headline ― “Corey Cogdell, wife of Bears lineman Mitch Unrein, wins bronze in Rio” ― only referred to her achievement, but didn’t say in which sport. “I just focussed on the execution and was not worrying about where I came”. In her three previous Olympic appearances, she earned zero medals, though in 2012 was a threat in the medleys. “I probably would be offended if he would talk to me like that as a husband”.
When the swimmer just missed out on beating the world record in the heats for the 400m race, footage shows him grimacing and clenching his fists before punching the air in anger.
Hicks has defended his comments, telling Associated Press: “It is impossible to tell Katinka’s story accurately without giving appropriate credit to Shane, and that’s what I was trying to do”. She owns a silver medal in this event from the 2012 Olympics.
One of Hosszu’s former coaches, Dave Salo, questioned whether Tusup’s intense tactics were productive.
If she wins that, she will equal the women’s record of four solo swimming golds at a single Games set by East Germany’s Kristin Otto in Seoul in 1988.
