Arianna Huffington to HuffPost: I’m outta here

Rising to fame as a political commentator in the 1990s, known for brusquely witty analysis delivered with a distinctive Greek accent, Huffington co-founded her eponymous site with Kenneth Lerer and Jonah Peretti in 2005. As a result, Huffington Post writers had to tack on a disclosure to any stories related to Uber or any of its competitors. iMediaEthics has asked Huffington Post if it will continue to include this disclosure in the post-Huffington era.

Huffington scored a fortune when AOL bought the the site for $315 million in 2011, at which point Huffington was given the title of editor-in-chief of AOL.

The Huffington Post was launched in 2005, and acquired by AOL in 2011 for $315m, and it has since established nine Huffington post global sites. AOL chief executive Tim Armstrong said in a statement Thursday that “AOL and Verizon are committed to continuing” the Huffington Post and “the groundbreaking work Arianna pioneered”.

Huffington said her departure is not tied to the decision by Verizon to buy Yahoo for $4.8 billion.

She said, in announcing her resignation, that guiding the new company through the startup and funding phases had simply taken more time than she expected. It comes as no surprise that Ms. Huffington is interested in such a venture – through the years, she’s published numerous books on health and wellness, including Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder and The Sleep Revolution: Transforming Your Life, One Night at a Time. A syndicated columnist, she has also written 15 books on politics, spirituality and self-help. “To everyone at HuffPost: it’s you who make HuffPost what it is”. “I’m filled with gratitude to all the colleagues and friends I’ve made here”.
