Robins agree £6m Gayle fee

Fulham, Bristol City and Wolverhampton Wanderers are chasing Crystal Palace midfielder Jonny Williams on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

A clinical finisher, Gayle established himself as a firm fans favourite after scoring two goals in the memorable 3-3 comeback draw against Liverpool in 2014.

Despite injuries Gayle ended his first season with Crystal Palace as the club’s top scorer, bagging seven goals in 23 appearances.

Pardew has recruited strikers Patrick Bamford on loan from Middlesbrough and Connor Wickham from Sunderland, effectively ending Gayle’s involvement in plans for the season – although he did have a place on the bench in Saturday’s win at Norwich City.

The League One champions have struggled to add to their side following their promotion in May, bringing in only French striker Jonathan Kodjia until last week’s double signing of Tottenham right-back Ryan Fredericks and Aston Villa striker Callum Robinson.

“He’s someone we’d like to have at the football club”.

“We’ve had a bid accepted and that’s as far as it’s gone”.

Gayle’s future at Selhurst Park has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks with Eagles boss Alan Pardew admitting last week the 24-year-old could leave if their valuation of the player was met. I don’t think anything has changed whilst we’ve been playing so maybe we’ll know more on Wednesday.

Gayle has now been given permission to hold talks with Bristol over personal terms and the transfer is expected to be completed within the end of the week.
