LSU receiver Tyron Johnson announces plans to transfer

Johnson, a former consensus four-star receiver (Rivals.com had him as a five-star) who was regarded as one of the cornerstones of the Tigers’ 2015 recruiting class, is transferring, which he announced via Twitter on Thursday. Johnson took to Twitter to announce that he had been released from his scholarship and is now free to move on to destinations unknown. “I would like to thank LSU and the great coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to play for them at the highest level of college football, and I would like to thank my family and fans for supporting me during my time at LSU”.

Johnson’s father, Tyrone, later told The Advocate of Baton Rouge that his son was seeking to play in a “more wide-open” offense. “That was the only reason why”. He caught nine passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns in his only season at LSU.

A game against MS on November 21 was Johnson’s breakout party.

Johnson is the third receiver to leave LSU this year. If he’s looking for a wide open offense, teams like Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and others in the Big 12 make a lot of sense and it’s not too far from his Louisiana home. It’s uncertain at this point what schools Johnson could be looking at, but if he wants to go to a place that features a prominent aerial attack, those are two good places to look. “I have been granted my release, and I will be transferring. forever LSU”.

This was the first significant blow on the offensive side of the ball for LSU, which experienced a key injury on defense.
