Gymnastics: Coronation complete as Biles wins all around gold

Her total world-championship medal haul (including two silver and two bronze), the most in U.S history, surpassing Shannon Miller of the Magnificent Seven. She scored 62.198, punctuating her afternoon with a 15.933 on the floor exercise.

On Thursday night, she’ll compete in the Rio all-around competition along with American teammate Aly Raisman and two gymnasts from each of the other participating teams.

Simone Biles continued to reign supreme in gymnastics on Thursday, taking the gold medal in the women’s all-around gymnastics competition.

And Raisman, the eldest of the Final Five, has the maturity, grace and effortless demeanor young gymnasts dream of.

Number of consecutive USA all-around championships Biles has won (2013 to 2016), making her the third woman to do so. (Seriously, girl, how?) What we love best about her, though? Biles also had the highest difficulty score on beam at 6.7; two women do a 6.5. She and Raisman joined Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson in 2008 as the only USA gymnasts to win gold and silver in the same Olympic final. She has done a 6.9, most recently at the 2016 National Championships. She delivered. Four years after missing out on an all-around medal in a tiebreaker, she turned in the top floor exercise up to that point with only Biles to go in that event.

Biles is a three-time defending world champion, and she basically wins every competition she’s in.

That’s because gold has been out of reach for everyone but Biles for three years and counting.

Anything less than heading back to her family’s home in Spring, Texas, with a fistful of golds would be seen as a disappointment.

As she has throughout that run, Biles stayed far ahead of the field by performing the most hard gymnastics with some of the best execution.
