Japan’s Ichiro Suzuki reaches 3000-hit Major League Baseball milestone
Suzuki made his major-league debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2001, amid considerable skepticism that he could replicate the success he had achieved as a professional player in Japan.

August 07 2016: Miami Marlins Outfielder, Ichiro Suzuki (51) connects for a triple and his 3,000th career hit during a regular season Major League Baseball game between the Colorado Rockies and the visiting Miami Marlins at Coors Field in Denver, CO.
Most members of the 3,000 hit club began their Major League Baseball careers around age 21, with the latest bloomer among them before Ichiro being Wade Boggs, who was 24 in his rookie season and went on to amass 3,010 hits.
“I’ve always felt that with things like that, you think about it when you don’t have things you’re doing”, Ichiro told Sports on Earth through an interpreter on Saturday. Looking back, the hesitation seems silly.
It is very noteworthy to remember that Ichiro began his career late according to sporting standards.
Combining his Japanese and MLB numbers gives him 4,278 hits for his entire baseball career.
He had his chances – he pinch-hit in all three games and was twice robbed of hits by fine Cubs defensive plays.
Before his arrival in the United States, Suzuki had amassed 1,278 hits for the Orix Blue Wave in Japan.
“He said he wants to play until he is 50.and I hope he will enjoy the majors and really does play until he is 50, even if others may laugh at him for playing so long”, Nobuyuki Suzuki said. It was only his third start where he hurled 3.2 innings or less this season, and the first since May 19.
Fernandez is 12-6 with a 2.87 ERA this year. He’s like, “Aw, no juice, no juice.’ I was like, “It was a great swing, man.'” At 42 years, 290 days, Ichiro is the second-oldest player to reach 3,000 hits”. The article begins with a hypothetical question about how many hits the Japanese player might have racked up in the majors if he had started in the USA rather than Japan, where he tallied 1,278 hits.
The Japanese, who is a two-time batting champion and 10-time All-Star, moved past Rose in June. Earlier this season, Japan Post announced plans for a commemorative set of stamps and postcards to honor Ichiro. He’s ahead of only Winfield (.354 OBP through 3,000-hit season), Ripken (.343), Brock (.343) and Yount (.340). Ichiro, not known for his power, just missed hitting it out of the park.
DENVER (AP) – Ichiro Suzuki has gotten his 3,000th career hit in the major leagues, becoming the 30th player to reach the milestone. His entire training regimen, and it seems his every waking moment, is focused on getting the next base hit. His 192 strikeouts are already a career high, five more than he had in 2013.

“Ichiro’s contributions to the Mariners’ franchise were immeasurable”, Lincoln said. “I pretty much lost us the game and lost us the series”. “I’ve just been more fortunate those other times”. Baseball is more than a game to him, it is a craft, which he works at tirelessly with intense discipline. This historic milestone has been in the waiting, but Ichiro finally got the elusive hit. Only Cap Anson, who was 45 when he got his 3,000th hit in 1897, was older.
