Vanessa Marcotte’s body was found in Princeton on Sunday, in woods about a half-mile from her mother’s home.
Police are investigating this gruesome #Crime as a homicide and the residents of this town are very much on edge today with a murderer at large.
The 27-year-old Marcotte worked as an account manager in NY for Google.
A man and a woman who would identify themselves only as lifelong family friends, said Vanessa’s smile lit up the room and she had a childlike zest for life.
Marcotte grew up in nearby Leominster, attended the Bancroft School in Worcester and graduated from Boston University in 2011.
“We have a awful set of facts, a disgusting set of circumstances right now”, Early said Monday.
Police are searching for suspects and combing the area for evidence relating to the death.
Marcotte’s former professor Steve Quigley, who she reportedly kept in contact with after graduation, told CBS Boston, “She was kind, very bright and unfailingly gracious”. Police wrote on their Facebook page that “no tip is inconsequential or irrelevant”.
“We are concerned about the safety of our town residents and visitors that enter our town”, Princeton Police Chief Michele Powers said.
“I must stress that we do not know if this was a random act”, Early said at a news conference Monday.
Hundreds of people in this small central MA town packed a church last night to remember a woman who was savagely murdered Sunday on an afternoon jog as they continue to come to grips with the terrifying possibility the slaying could have been random.
“Anyone with any information, or who may have seen anything suspicious on Sunday afternoon, or who may have seen someone or something that just seemed to not look right for the surroundings, should please call the State Police tip line”, the post read. “Every lead that comes in we’re following”, Early said.
The tip line is 508-453-7589 and callers may remain anonymous. “Again, we’re asking the citizens of Princeton to use an abundance of caution with regards to this”. Like Marcotte, 30-year-old Katrina Vetrano was killed while running alone during daylight hours in a secluded area.

Early said there is “nothing at this point” to indicate the deaths are connected.
