Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James has resigned with the team on a $100 million contract over three years. What wasn’t clear until Thursday was the type of contract he would sign.
James, the four-time MVP who led the Cavs to their first-ever title in Cleveland last season, announced the decision in a video on the Bleacher Report platform, Uninterrupted, that was produced for his fans.
James’ contract was not drawn up as of Thursday evening, a second source said, and the Cavs superstar and 13-year vet is expected to formally sign next week when he returns to OH after a summer spent vacationing in Europe and living in Los Angeles. That means the original best players of the Cavs are still with the team: LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, J.R. Smith, Kevin Love, along with other crucial role players Channing Frye, Richard Jefferson, Iman Shumpert and Mo Williams. The salary for the 2017-18 season will top $33 million, making him the highest-paid player in a single season in league history, topping the $33 million Michael Jordan earned with the Chicago Bulls in the 1997-98 season.
“I just can’t wait to get the group back together, the team, the franchise, more importantly, get everybody together”.
“I’m ecstatic”, James said. “I can’t wait to see my guys”.
Smith, a free agent, started 77 games for the Cavaliers last season.
The first week also has nationally televised matchups featuring Bulls-Celtics, Raptors-Cavs, Warriors-Pelicans and Clippers-Trail Blazers. However, there remain some details of the contract to work out.

While many will be critical of the Memphis Grizzlies point guard, especially since he has never been an NBA All Star, Conley is simply taking advantage of the record-breaking rise in the salary cap. Smith is believed to be seeking $15 million a year.
The Cavs are now tied to about $105 million in total salary not counting Smith’s deal.
