The Olympics has never seen anyone like Michael Phelps

That’s not unusual. Lochte is one of the few swimmers who can crack Phelps’ steely prerace focus.

The medal extends Phelps’ Olympic record to 26 career medals, including 22 golds.

Simone Manuel won a gold medal in the women’s 100 freestyle final Thursday night, surprising even herself.

Phelps was just 0.43 behind the Olympic record he set en route to gold in Beijing eight years ago.

Australian Larkin, who failed to medal in the 100m, took silver and Russian Federation s Evgeny Rylov the bronze.

Japan’s Rie Kaneto celebrates on the podium after winning the gold medal in the women’s 200-meter breaststroke final during the swimming competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He’ll also have the chance to do that later during the Rio games in the 100-meter butterfly.

“Coming into this race I tried to take the weight of the black community off my shoulders”, she said. Shi Jinglin claimed bronze for China.
