Arsenal facing defensive injury crisis heading into Liverpool season opener
Arsene Wenger has acknowledged whether he stays on as Arsenal boss next year will be dependant on results.

Now the veteran French manager expects the new season, which gets underway this weekend, to be one of the most competitive ever, with English football’s top flight playing host to a “world championship of managers” in Jose Mourinho (Manchester United), Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), Antonio Conte (Chelsea) and Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool).
Wenger also gave the latest update on the defensive crisis plaguing the Gunners before the season has even begun, per Smith: “Per Mertesacker is out for four months and Gabriel [Paulista] six to eight weeks, which is a bit better than expected because he doesn’t need surgery”.
“All the big clubs experienced last season a regret and a feeling of guilt but that would take something away from Leicester, who had an exceptional season. The bigger squad you have, the bigger chance you have of winning the Premier League or reaching the latter stages of the Champions League”. We have to get them ready for the new season.
“There are a few small things that we have to work on”, the 24 year-old told Arsenal Player.
It promises to be a very different one as well because there are so many ambitions out there so we want to focus and start well.
“It looks like that [more hard than ever] because it is a little bit world championships of managers as well which means a lot of ambitions come with that as well and the expectation level everywhere is very high”.

“Let’s not be naive, the economical power of the Premier League attracts the best players and the best managers”. Metro is reporting that the agent of Riyad Mahrez is having a meeting with the people at Leicester City today as the Premier League champions are poised to receive an offer of £35 million for the Algerian, who apparently wants to come to north London. But I think Arsene Wenger might put [Alexis] Sanchez a little more advanced this season, he’s always impressed for Chile like that.
