On Wednesday, the 26-year-old singer announced he was donating $250,000 to the Black Lives Matter Network, according to a report from the AP.

The money will go to the Black Lives Matter Network, which describes itself on its website as “a chapter-based national organization” now “working to (re) build the Black liberation movement”.

The organization has garnered attention after rebuking police treatment of minorities.

Though he did not attend the university himself, he grew up in Toronto and his parents are from Ethiopia.

Fader claims to have two sources that confirmed the Grammy-winning superstar gave $250,000 to the organization started by Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi, and Alicia Garza.

After making a $50,000 donation to the University of Toronto in an effort to support its Ethiopic Studies Program, The Weeknd is in the spirit of giving. “Enough is enough. It’s time to stand up for this”, he wrote.

This comes after the 26-year-old multiple Grammy award victor took to Twitter last month to show his support behind the Black Lives Matter movement.

While some may think The Weeknd’s generous donation is surprising, given the content of his music, the singer has been quite outspoken on the web.
