Sgt. Todd Crossett said today two people were found dead in Batavia Cemetery Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Erie County Medical Examiner the pair had injuries indicating they had both been struck by lightning, however the official cause of death remains unclear pending further testing.

Meteorologists helped determine that lightning struck the area sometime between 2:30 and 2:45 a.m. Wednesday as a storm passed through the area.

“This is the first time I have ever dealt with somebody struck by lightning”, said City of Batavia Police Department Detective Eric Hill.
